Maxspect designed their Gyre pumps using crossflow technology that circulates a tremendous volume of water without creating abrasive “hot spots” that blast corals and other invertebrates. The XF250 pushes water in a horizontal pattern across the tank. The water hits the opposite side of the aquarium and makes a return trip toward the pump. It’s like a conveyor belt of water! This is called a Gyre flow pattern. Why is this a breakthrough? Instead of randomly pushing small streams of water around the tank, the Maxspect Gyre keeps all the water flushing through your reef and over your corals.
Powerheads and wavemakers use traditional impellers and propellers to create water flow. In many cases the water flow is focused on a limited area of the reef, leaving stagnate “dead spots” throughout the tank. The water velocity is very strong near the pump outlet but drops off at the far end of the aquarium. Propeller-driven wave-making set-ups create a vertical flow pattern. The wave energy tends to move the water up and down like a wave but does not actually move water around the aquarium.
The Gyre XF250 is controlled by the 2nd-generation Gyre Advanced Controller. It features an easier to read OLED display. The high-definition display makes setting up and programming easy through colored icons and numbers. Wireless control is now available through Apple and Android apps. The controller comes pre-programmed with five water movement modes:
With the new Gyre Advanced Controller, you can easily link-up two Gyre pumps for virtually limitless custom water movement modes. These include:
